Marvelous Macadamia

Macadamia nuts are native to Australia and were introduced onto Hawaii in the late 19th century. A German botanist named them in honor of his Australian friend John Macadam. They were a favorite food of the Australian aborigines and today many of us enjoy their delicious nutty taste.

Macadamia oil is just as appreciated for cooking as for skin care and:

  • It nourishes the skin. “The vitamin E present in macadamia oil has many properties that may benefit a person’s skin: it absorbs easily, making it a good moisturizer for very dry skin,” Medical News Today reports.

  • Plus it has the particularity to be “rich in an extremely rare fatty acid similar to sebum, experts at Clarins, the renowned skin care brand, explain.

  • Note that if macadamia oil is generally safe to use, some people may develop an allergy after applying it directly to the skin.

  • It’s also very appreciated for hair care. The macadamia oil is applied as a mask for a short amount of time then rinsed. it leaves the hair shiny and smooth.

  • Macadamia oil can be used pure but is also found as a component among others in a beauty product. It’s often combined with other oils like argan, jojoba, cocoa, coconut…

The macadamia nuts industry started in Hawaii and became a symbol of the island. For that matter the first time I used macadamia oil was on a trip to the Rainbow State!

Today South Africa is the world's leading producer and many skin care brands use macadamia oils from over there.
